The Happy Larrys are a support group dedicated to helping throat cancer patients and their families. We have organised a swimming club especially with neck breathers in mind although at present we are struggling to find a venue for swimming.
We are a warm and friendly club offering support and free advice on a wide range of subjects including:
- Benefits and Welfare Rights
- Equipment
- Fundraising events
- Social Outings
The Club is open to relatives and friends too and meets monthly although please check in the News & Events page, as sometimes we are all dining out!
Our venue is the Queen of Martyr's Parish Centre on Stonebridge Lane, Croxteth, Liverpool L11 9AZ and newcomers are always assured a warm welcome. Click Here for a map.
Club Meetings
The Club meets once a month, usually on the third Wednesday of the month at 3:15pm at the Queen of Martyrs Parish Centre, Stonebridge Lane, Liverpool, but please check before attending. The meetings are a unique opportunity for laryngectomees to exchange ideas and we often have guest speakers on relevant subjects.
Dining Out
This is one of our favourite pastimes and we regularly travel to Liverpool City Centre, Southport and even as far as Blackpool in pursuit of good food and good company.
Theatre Visits
Theatre visits often go hand-in-hand with dining out and the Happy Larrys are regular patrons of the Liverpool Playhouse, Everyman and Empire theatres.
Swimming Club
Having a hole in the front of your neck might seem like a handicap to swimming, but it doesn't stop some of our members! Using a specially designed inflatable snorkel and with a fully qualified nurse in attendance, we have met many laryngectomees who have taken the plunge.
Fundraising Events
We have a established a wide variety of fundraising events throughout the year including Summer Fairs and Charity Nights. See the News & Events page for details of upcoming events. If you would like to help in our fundraising we would be delighted to hear from you.
